Many native plants as Indonesia anti-HIV/AIDS potential, but untested drug screening to be recognized. According to expert biomedical, Suprapto Ma’at, just screening of tropical herbs of anti-HIV often committed developed countries like the U.S. or Europe. Screening was preceded by the determination sitotoksisitas of cell culture extracts that have been infected by HIV, to screen for the fraction of plant extracts which are known to have a steady activity as anti-HIV.

From Western studies on turmeric (Domestic Curcuma / longa) is known yellow-colored pigment found to have antitumor effects such farmakologik, anti-infective activity, anti-inflammatory and can inhibit the enzyme activity of HIV-1 integrase.

Which is a polysaccharide Acemannan acetylation of aloe vera (aloe vera) which researched the laboratory in the U.S. and in Canada, it is antitumor, imunostimulan, and antiviral.

Diterpenoid lactone found in sambiloto (Andrographis paniculata) can inhibit the growth of HIV-1 virus or HIV-2 virus and patented at Bastyr University AndroVir name.

Research on akstrak Meniran (Phyllanthus niruri) works as an anti-viral and imunostimulator (immune stimulant) in people with HIV / AIDS. Read more

boschaAs reported the nation’s leading newspapers, Kompas. Indonesia Boscha observatory located in Lembang, Bandung, West Java now has a new facility in the form of sun glasses. Lembang is located in tropical areas and enough to make a pretty good strategy to study the sun.

NASA already has a SOHO (Solar & Heliospheric Observatory), certainly not balanced when compared to existing solar telescope in the Boscha. However, due to the strategic location and close enough to the center of Bandung. This is very good facilities to attract people, especially students.

Looking ahead, the data from this solar telescope will be connected with live streaming on the ITB’s website and updated in real time. This data would be used for the National Institute of Aeronautics and Space (LAPAN).

Bioethanol, Potential Future Energy

Posted on | November 11, 2009 | No Comments

bioethanol_pumpAccording to the researchers, as a country rich in agricultural production and plantation, Indonesia has the potential to develop bioethanol as a gasoline substitute. Even in the future, conversion into bioethanol fuel can be a solution to the depletion of oil content.

Bioethanol can be an option in reducing environmental damage as a side effect of the development of industry and transportation. There are several advantages possessed bioethanol fuel than gasoline, partly because the production process more environmentally friendly and involved planting vegetation that absorb carbondioxide in the atmosphere. In addition, the using of bioethanol as fuel for motor vehicles more environmental friendly because it produces less pollution. Read more

Using of Detergent in Indonesia

For other cleaning materials, detergents is the yield of technological advances that make use of the chemical byproduct of petroleum distillation, combined with other chemicals such as phosphate, silicate, dye, and fragrance ingredients. around in the 1960s, the early generations detergent appeared using surface pengaktif chemicals (surfactants) Alkyl Benzene Sulfonat (ABS) is capable of producing foam. However, due to the difficult nature of ABS broken down by microorganisms in the soil surface, eventually replaced by Linear Alkyl compounds Sulfonat (LAS) are believed to be relatively more familiar with the environment.

In many countries in the world have banned the use of ABS and replaced with the LAS. While in Indonesia, the regulations concerning the prohibition of using ABS does not exist. Several reasons ABS is used in detergent products, such as low cost, stability in the form of cream / pasta and abundant foam. Read more

Solar Cycle Miracle

solarflareThe sun on the way its evolution as a star shows the dynamic properties, both in the outer layer (photosphere, chromosphere, corona) and the inner lining. One of the wonders of evolution behavior is the phenomenon of solar activity cycle 11 years.

Iteration cycle is a common event in nature. Afternoon changed the night, due to the earth’s rotation on its axis. Successive seasons due to the slope of the earth’s rotation axis to the plane of its orbit around the sun (the earth’s equator at an angle of 23.5 degrees to the Ecliptic). And the sun was also a cycle of activity.

Various period solar cycle have been identified, both within the tens or hundreds of years. One of the easily observed is the 11-year activity cycle. This phenomenon has even been known to observers of the sun since the 17th century, considering the method used is simple, namely counting the number of spots on a regular basis every day.

Galileo Galilei is the one who made a major breakthrough in the history of astronomical observation. After finishing a homemade telescope in 1610, one of the celestial bodies is subject to the sun. Read more

Asteriod will Hit Earth in the Year 2029

Posted on | November 7, 2009 | No Comments

asteroid1Chances are 1 in 300 if the 400-meter sized asteroid will hit Earth in the year 2029 but may be missed if the scientists managed to obtain additional data about its orbit.

Until now the asteroid is named Asteroid 2004 MN4 is rather difficult to observe. “The Torino Scale Collision strength used by astronomers about the possibility of collision with Earth, the asteroid was scored 2 out of 10″, said Donald Yeomans of the program manager of the Near Earth Object part of the propulsion system NASA Laboratory in Pasadena.

But there is no asteroid has ever scored more than one. On the day Friday, April 13, 2029, “we can not predict it,” said Yeoman again. The asteroid was discovered first time in June and look again at this month.

If this asteroid hit the Earth at sea would cause a tsunami, while on the mainland would cause great damage. Potential size of the 600 megaton explosion.

According to the present Yeoman asteroids that takes less than a year to evolve around the Sun has been observed from 40th place on Earth. First kalinua at Kitt Peak Observatory and this month from Australia and New Zealand.
