Global Handwashing Day

Hands is the main medium for the transmission of germs that cause disease such as diarrhea and respiratory diseases. From various research, the risk of disease transmission can be reduced by an increase in the behavior of clean and healthy living, hygiene behavior, such as washing hands with soap. Wash hands with soap is one of the most effective way to prevent bird flu, swine flu, diarrhea and pneumonia. Each year, more than 3.5 million children can not live up to the age of 5 due to diarrhea and pneumonia. Unicef says washing hands, especially after contact with feces can reduce diarrheal diseases by more than 40%, and reduces respiratory infections by 30%.
Agency of the United Nations (UN) since 2008 has set October 15 as the Global Handwashing Day (GHD). GHD will be celebrated together in 52 countries, on 5 continents, which will be conducted simultaneously each on 15 October. This is also done to attract attention and raise public awareness about the importance of washing hands with soap.
