Harmful Effects of Plastics Materials

Posted on | September 15, 2009 | No Comments

Chemicals contained in plastic that is very dangerous for human health. One of the most dangerous chemical is bisphenol A (BPA). These materials can stimulate cancer cell growth or increase the risk of pregnancy miscarriage!

The risk of health problems brought plastic material is affecting the health of children, because their organs are still very weak. Moreover, their immune systems are still not perfect. In fact, since birth, the baby’s body sometimes has given the plastic chemical, both from the use of pacifiers or bottles using other food containers. Exposure to the chemical content of plastic materials into this body to look out for.

Viewed from nature, divided into thermoplastic plastics and thermosets. Thermoplastics have the property, when heated will be plastic and if it continues heated to temperatures over 200 º C to melt. When the temperature then lowered (cooling), the plastic material will harden and can be formed again.

Thermoset after processing into a product cannot be returned to original form. When compared with food, thermoplastics such as chocolate can melt and harden over time and we will still get brown, while thermosets such as biscuits that once printed cannot return to shape again.

BE CAREFUL …!!
Under the arrows that make up the triangle, sometimes included initials chemical content. Let us consider the type of palstik and use:

1. PETEPETE or PET (polyethylene terephthalate) bottles used for clear plastic / transparent / translucent like mineral water bottles, juice bottles, and almost all other beverage bottles. BOTO-bottle with materials 1 and 2 is recommended only for single-use. Do not use for warm water let alone hot. Dispose of old bottles or beret-beret look.

hdpe2. HDPE (high density polyethylene) used for milk bottle milk white. Same as 1 PET, 2 is also recommended for all usage.

v3. V or PVC (polyvinyl chloride) is the most difficult plastic recyclable. This plastic can be found on the plastic wrap (cling wrap), and bottles. Ingredients from PVC is Deha contained in plastic wrap and can leak into the greasy food when heated. PVC potentially harmful to the kidneys, liver and body weight.

ldpe4. LDPE (low density polyethylene) was used to place food and bottles of soft. The goods with the code can be 4 recycling and good for things that require flexibility, but strong. Goods with practically 4 cannot be destroyed but still good for the food.

pp5. PP (polypropylene) is the best choice for plastic materials, especially related to food and drink such as a place to store food, drink and most important bottle drink bottle for the baby. Is a common characteristic transparent bottles that are not clear or cloudy. Look for this symbol when buying goods made from plastic.

ps6. PS (polystyrene) was used as a place to eat Styrofoam, disposable drinking places, etc.. Polystyrene material could leak styrine material into food when food is touching. Styrine hazardous materials to the brain and nervous system. Besides the food, styrine also can be obtained from cigarette smoke, fumes and building construction materials.

oth7. Other (usually polycarbonate) can be found in the foods and beverages such as sports drink bottles. Polycarbonate can release its main ingredient is bisphenol-A into the food and beverages that potentially damage the hormone system. Avoid Polycarbonate plastics.

Currently circulating fake melamine food supplies are usually sold at a price of 10 thousand 3, made of urea formaldehyde-containing high levels of formaldehyde, which cannot stand the heat, and can remove formaldehyde that can contaminate food.

To distinguish false melamine with the original can be seen from the texture of the surface under lights, the fake usually wavy while the original did not, and if boiled false will change shape and color to yellow.
