Corrosion, Serious Problem in All Countries

Corrosion or rust occurs continuously without stopping. There is no materials that could avoid corrosion. Corrosion occurs because caused by a process that occurs in elekrtokimia metal or alloy caused by the presence of electrolytes (liquid / acid solution, salts, minerals that can deliver electricity / conductor).
A result of material / metal degrades the quality deterioration of the physical quality material becomes brown / rust that strengthen the effect of the material also decreases. Indonesia has never calculate quantitatively the amount of loss due to corrosion. But the amount of corrosion losses in the U.S. reached 15 billion dollar per year or about 15 trillion rupiah. If the Indonesian state budget is 30 trillion per year, the loss of corrosion in the United States is equal to half the value of our state budget per year. If losses due to corrosion attacks in Indonesia, approximately 10% of the American losses amounted to 1.5 trillion rupiah per year, not including lost production hours, damages, claims, repair costs, and others.
If Indonesia can prevent corrosion damage only 0.5 trillion per year, then every 2 years will come new jobs for citizens of Indonesia. Merely illustrative, not rare night bus or pickup truck lost control due to brake free from tension due to leaking hydraulic pipe corrosion attacked. Passenger-laden ship sank due to a leaky plates attacked by corrosion, aircraft failed to land because the “landing gear” is not working due to leaking hidrolisnya system. All of this type of accident causing damage very large material loss of life, body and morale that can not be measured in money.
Corrosion attack is obviously a very big danger, even bigger than the consequences of natural disasters, but because of our commonness of the corrosion attack of evil and danger that such a large loss that occurs without any of us realize or know. Ironically we willingly accept all the risk of loss. The easiest example for instance if the car’s exhaust / motor we leaked, at least with a little grumbling we bring the vehicle to the garage to repair or even replace it with the cost is not cheap. Whereas corrosion attack can be prevented so that the cost does not become very expensive. That’s why a corrosion engineer always reminded that “Prevention of corrosion in many ways is a long-term investment”
